Why We Started Pixx: Because Choosing Where to Eat Should Bring Friends Together

The question “Where should we eat?” often starts a long group chat, dozens of restaurant links, conflicting preferences, repeated “I’m good with anything” responses, and one person eventually making the decision for everyone. That experience became the reason we started Pixx.

Picking a restaurant with friends should be one of the easiest parts of going out. Instead, the question “Where should we eat?” often starts a long group chat, dozens of restaurant links, conflicting preferences, repeated “I’m good with anything” responses, and one person eventually making the decision for everyone. That experience became the reason we started Pixx.

Pixx was built to help groups decide where to eat together without turning dinner plans into work. The app brings everyone’s preferences into the decision, including favorite cuisines, dietary restrictions, location, past favorites, and group votes. Instead of searching restaurant sites individually or spending 30 minutes scrolling through Yelp, the group gets restaurant suggestions designed around the people who are actually going to dinner. But the real reason behind Pixx goes deeper than restaurant recommendations.

The problem behind the problem

Decision fatigue plays a big role in modern dining. You have hundreds of restaurants nearby. Everyone has access to reviews, ratings, social media recommendations, maps, menus, reservation platforms, and search results.

More information should make choosing easier. Often, the opposite happens. One friend wants Italian. Someone else wants sushi. Another person is vegetarian. Someone wants something close to home. Someone else wants to try somewhere new. Two people refuse to make a choice.

Then there is the friend who always decides. Every group seems to have one. Sometimes that person enjoys choosing. Other times, the responsibility falls on them because nobody else wants to make the final call. Either way, group power becomes uneven. One person drives the decision while everyone else reacts. Pixx gives the group another option. Instead of asking one person to figure everything out, everyone gets a voice.

Why Simon Sinek’s Start With Why matters to Pixx

Simon Sinek’s Start With Why framework argues that organizations should begin with their purpose, cause, or belief before focusing on what they sell. His Golden Circle starts with WHY at the center, followed by HOW and WHAT. (Simon Sinek). That framework fits the story behind Pixx. Our WHAT is easy to explain. Pixx is an AI restaurant picker for groups. Our HOW includes group preferences, dietary needs, smart location selection, AI restaurant suggestions, voting, meal planning, and group chat. Our WHY matters more. We believe deciding where to eat with people you care about should feel easy, fair, and social. Dinner starts before anyone reaches the restaurant. The experience begins when someone sends the first message asking where everyone wants to go. We want that part to feel better too.

More democracy at the dinner table

Pixx also addresses something that rarely gets discussed when people talk about restaurant apps: group dynamics. Restaurant decisions are social decisions. People compromise. Some people speak louder. Others stay quiet. Someone worries about being difficult because of a dietary restriction. Someone agrees to a restaurant they do not really want because they do not want to hold up the group. A group-aware restaurant picker changes that dynamic.

Pixx considers the group rather than treating dinner as a search performed by one person. Friends join the meal plan, preferences become part of the process, restaurant options surface for the group, and everyone gets the opportunity to vote. The goal is to eliminate the repetitive work surrounding the conversation. Less scrolling. Less negotiating. Less pressure on one person to decide. More time enjoying the reason everyone made plans in the first place.

From an app to a lifestyle

We launched Pixx to solve a problem most of us have experienced while spending time with our besties. Where should we eat? That simple question helped shape everything we are building. We help address decision fatigue, social awkwardness, group power imbalance, that one friend who always decides, and wasted time scrolling through restaurant listings. But we also see something bigger. Going out to eat is one of the ways people stay connected. Friends catch up over dinner. Couples try new places. Families celebrate birthdays. Travelers experience a city through food. Groups create memories around a table. Choosing the restaurant should support that experience rather than drain energy before dinner even begins. That is our why. Pixx exists to make choosing where to eat together easier, fairer, faster, and more fun.
